Dr Mirun Thayaparan is an Australian-trained orthopaedic surgeon with subspecialty interests in robotic hip and knee arthroplasty, and foot and ankle surgery. He has completed advanced fellowship training in both areas, including being selected as the inaugural Brisbane Foot and Ankle Fellow.
His other areas of interest include ankle fusion and ankle replacement, foot and ankle sports injuries, minimally invasive bunion correction, orthopaedic trauma, arthroscopic knee surgery and ACL surgery.
Dr Thayaparan has worked across hospitals in New South Wales, South Australia and the Northern Territory, building broad experience across orthopaedic surgery and trauma. He also completed a Graduate Certificate of Clinical Epidemiology with Distinction through the University of Newcastle.
As a husband and father to two boys, Dr Thayaparan enjoys spending time with his family outside of work and also has a strong interest in technology, which extends to his surgical practice.
Dr Thayaparan is also committed to training the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons. He holds clinical associate lecturer positions with the University of Adelaide and Flinders University.
Qualifications & Fellowships
Dr Thayaparan completed his medical degree in 2011 before working across hospitals in New South Wales, South Australia and the Northern Territory. He went on to complete specialist orthopaedic training and achieved Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and the Australian Orthopaedic Association in 2025.
To further develop his expertise in joint replacement surgery, Dr Thayaparan completed a fellowship in robotic hip and knee arthroplasty at St Vincent’s Private Hospital Northside and The Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane.
He then completed further subspecialty training after being selected as the inaugural Brisbane Foot and Ankle Fellow. This fellowship involved training across St Vincent’s Private Hospital Northside, North West Private Hospital, Greenslopes Private Hospital, St Andrew’s Private Hospital and Royal Brisbane Hospital.
Dr Thayaparan also completed a Graduate Certificate of Clinical Epidemiology with Distinction from the University of Newcastle in 2023.
